The new BMC cruise schedule for the 2012 cruise season was announced and accepted by unanimous vote by the members at the January 4th general meeting. This schedule is quite a departure from the past cruise seasons at the Soda Jerk in Hummelstown. This year we will be cruising to three different locations, rotating among them. In addition, a totally new aspect being introduced is there will be two different cruise locations on several of the cruise dates. Naturally, the times will allow cruisers to attend either one or both cruises on the same day.
We will continue to cruise on the 1st Saturday of the month beginning in April and ending in December. One exception to the schedule is that there will not be any cruise in the month of November as the date always coincides with the club's annual Oldies Dance in Harrisburg and just became too busy a day. The December cruise will be a Toys for Tots cruise and that date needs to be decided and may not be on the first Saturday.
Below is the schedule for 2012. This information is also listed on the Club Event Calendar in the appropriate month.

These are the letters received from three appreciative military families in the Carlisle, PA area.
|
To the members of Blue Moon Cruisers Rod and Custom Association,
My family and I would love to send you a most sincere THANK YOU for
the gift card. It
As soon as I heard about your associations' gift I did an online
search and quickly
Your associations' kindness has certainly sparked a fire in me to
give back and to teach
|
Dear Blue Moon Cruisers,
I would like to start this letter off by saying thank you for the (gift) card. It is a blessing to know that there are still people that are appreciative of what we in the Military service do. In these very uncertain times and with all the recent hardships for my family and me, your group just made Christmas happen for my family.
I can't say enough how much this gift has and will impact my three kids. Honestly, I wasn't really certain I would be able to get much for my children this year. That is not that case now. What you have provided my kids this year is a camera for my oldest, a remote control truck for my son and couple dolls for my little one. Which are the exact things they asked Santa for. As for my wife and me, you have given us the best thing, the chance to see that our great kids get the Christmas they deserve. Thank you so much for that.

A thank you card was sent by one family: Thank You - the
phrase is simple and the words are few, but behind them lies a world
of appreciation. Special people like you make the world a
brighter place. And included the following note: Blue Moon Cruisers: On behalf of my family and me, we would like to send you a sincere thank you in appreciation for your generous gift card and holiday greetings. It is a very great blessing that our family has received such a special gift and without people like you it wouldn't have been possible. From the bottom of our hearts thank you for all that you do. Have a very merry holiday season and may the warmest of thoughts be with you and yours. |
While there is a wide variety of advertisers that support the Blue Moon
Cruisers by taking out an ad in our Blue Moon Cruiser Directory many are
restaurants and other eating establishments. Members have always
been encouraged to take their business to our advertisers. Rick
and Donna Meisel, have designed a novel and fun way for all members to
give back to some of them. Restaurants, drive-in's and
ice cream shops have always been a part of our lives and history. Where did you go on
your first date in that ole' 52 Chevy back in 1960? I'll bet it
was a drive-in restaurant or ice cream stand. Rick and Donna have
instituted the Ride into the Sunset series of cruises starting on
Monday, May 21, 2007. Where is it written that a cruise can only
happen on a weekend?
Next cruise: Please RSVP to Rick so they know we are coming.

Ron Swartley informs us -
2011 - Last Cruise Season at the Soda Jerk - We had a good 12 year run but, due to expansion plans by the property owner that will greatly limit available parking at the property the Blue Moon Cruisers Rod & Custom Association is actively searching for a new long term facility to hold the club monthly cruises. It is reported that other locations being explored include the Grace United Methodist Church near the current Soda Jerk location, Rod's Roadhouse in Harrisburg, High Point Shopping Center/Brother's Pizza, New Kingstown Fire Co. grounds, and Newberry Market and a strip mall on Linglestown Rd, Harrisburg. Any other suggested locations should be brought to the attention of the club administration board ASAP.

Summer of 2011 BMC members, Simon and Patty Williams, hosted a child from New York City for the first time through the Fresh Air Fund.
"Is there room in your home for 1 week this summer for a child from New York City? For 125 years the Fresh Air Fund has matched up volunteer host families with disadvantaged kids, aged 6 to 12, for a summer "vacation" in the 'burbs. If you have an interest, contact Roberta Popp, 717-938-1007 or 717-487-8096 for specifics."

"It is rewarding to see the smile on our Fresh Air child's face as she enjoys the simple things we take for granted..."
Friendly Town host families are volunteers who live in the suburbs or small town communities. Host families range in size and background, but share the desire to open their hearts and homes to give city children an experience they will never forget. Hosts say the Fresh Air experience is as enriching for their own families, as it is for the inner-city children. There are no financial requirements for hosting a child. Volunteers may request the age-group and gender of the Fresh Air youngster they would like to host. Stories about real Fresh Air host families and their New York City visitors are just a click away!

On Sunday, August
15th, 2010, 60+ Blue Moon Cruisers cruised to the Railroad House
Restaurant in Marietta, PA as arranged by Bob Newhouse. Our
thanks to him for finding interesting places to try. As you can see
from the pictures the atmosphere was great. It was a pleasant drive down Route 441 along the Susquehanna River to the historic landmark. We had reserved parking in the lot directly across the street. Unfortunately the owner was under the impression that we would be "cruising in" on a staggered basis and not one large group all at once. His staff was unprepared and the kitchen was unable to keep up with the breakfast orders. As a result many members waited a considerable time for their breakfast. While most did enjoy the quality of the food and John K. did get his bacon please accept the apologies of the Railroad House and simply remember that we all can learn from a bad experience and that the next experience will be much better. Rick Meisel has designated the Railroad House as the destination for our Dinner Cruise for October 18. The meal will be served buffet style which will be more efficient for a large group and at a reasonable price. Details of the menu will be forthcoming.

Blue Moon Cruiser Ron Allyn Swartley for the 5th year in a row had his drag strip record setting 1956 Plymouth Fury on display at the ANNUAL YORK US 30 DRAG STRIP REUNION SHOW held in the huge Toyota building inside the York Fairgrounds. Ron's 1956 Plymouth Fury was the only stock Mopar from the 1950's on display among the 250+ record breaking cars at the show. Drag cars and drivers from all across the country had their famous cars on display. Bruce Larson's USA 1 Camaro, Bud Faubel's Hemi Honker Dodge, Dave Stricklers' Old Reliable 62 & 63 Chevy's, Bill Jenkins' Grump's Toy Camaro and hundreds more. Ron also did a short Elvis performance on stage which included singing " Are you lonesome tonight" on stage to Linda Vaughn the famous Ms. HURST.
Before and after Ron's performance the huge building came alive with Rock and Roll music from the 50's 60's and 70's with George Nye, York US 30's official track announcer doing interviews and introducing songs. The whole building took on a air of nostalgia with the beautiful drag race cars of yesterday surrounded by their famous drivers as the Oldies Rock and Roll music played in the background. Each year the show gets bigger----don't miss it next year!!!!!!!!! Being there is like taking a ride in a TIME MACHINE.!!!!!!!!! ( pictured below is Ron and York's official track announcer. While being interviewed Ron was quoted as saying " THE YORK US 30 REUNION SHOW WAS FIT FOR A KING" !!!
