Blue Moon Cruisers...where we started. In the beginning of August 1992, a bunch of guys got together at Chuck Hollenbach's Texaco Station at 10th & Lowther Streets in Lemoyne, and talked about starting a car club.
Towards the end of August, 1992, a bigger group that signed a list, to form a club, gathered at John Kaufman's garage and discussed some of the finer details of a "car club". Items like logo, name, cut-off year, family or motor head oriented and whether to Incorporate or not.
Our first "REAL" meeting was held at Wanda's on the Carlisle Pike on September 22, 1992. We had the nomination of officers, to be voted on in November. (Because there was no meeting in October.)
There were 14 different sketches submitted for the logo design, and probably just as many, if not more, names. A logo, drawn by one of Ron Bloses' employees, and the name, submitted by Dorothy Kaufman, were chosen at the November 3rd meeting. Thus, we became the Blue Moon Cruiser's with the "unique" logo.
Our first Club fund raiser was a 50/50 drawing run by John Kaufman, with a second drawing for a Marilyn Monroe poster. This poster was then donated back to the Club to be auctioned to the highest bidder. The high bidder, John Neidinger, then donated the poster back to the Club to be used as our Mascot. Dominic put the poster in lights and plexi-glass for the club.
Our first "Club" award was the Pumpkin Award, earned in 1993, for having thirteen vehicles in the Mechanicsburg Halloween Parade.
Anyone joining the "Club" in November of 1992, would be a Charter Member. We had 36 members at the adjournment of the November 3rd meeting. Of these 36 Charter Members, 15 remain members.
As of January 1, 2007 we are a Club of 375 members...some of us are Street Rods, some are Custom, some are Antique, some are Kit and some are Classic. ALL of us are in love.....
