From the President, John Kaufman:

November 1, 2014

... My Last

I want to thank Jim Hinkle for the past 10+ years as Chairman of the Blue Moon Cruisers
Directory of Member Information and for a smooth transition to our new Directory Chairperson, Donna
Sprowls. Welcome. These are the kind of people that keep our club together. There are a
few Committee Chair people needed: join the fun, volunteer! Also, BMC officers are
needed. President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary plus 2 Directors. Nominations
will be taken at the November 4th meeting at the Park Inn.

A special thanks to Don Anderson, Dave Uberti and Tom Shumaker for bringing in new
members. We?re a little closer to 500. Keep up the good work! Buy a membership for a
friend for Christmas! Something he or she can enjoy all year round and they can?t put it
on a yard sale table to get rid of it!

January 29th to February 1st, 2015 is the Motor Trend Auto Show at the PA Farm Show
Complex in Harrisburg. Call me (John Kaufman) at 717-574-1426 for more information.

Also don?t forget, on Saturday, December 6th from 11am to 3pm, Toys for Tots at the Silver Springs Diner &
Sam?s Club.

For 2015 I?m hoping for a joint venture - Silver Springs Diner, Sam?s Club and BMC.
Cruises will be held April thru December. DJ, Dash Plaques, Gift Certificates and
much more. Your next President?s letter will come from your newly elected President. I
thank you for all your support.
PS., still looking for a Secretary.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
John Kaufman, ?The Godfather?

"You are only as good as the people you surround yourself with."  Thanks for surrounding me.

Happy Crusin?

Carlisle Events? Pennsylvania Season is a Wrap

The 40th Anniversary of Fall Carlisle Concludes an Amazing 2014 Season

CARLISLE, PA ? Two men and a dream; that is how the event now known as Fall Carlisle began in 1974.  Since then, events have come and gone, but Fall Carlisle has been a constant and will forever be known as the event that started it all.  With the 2014 event in the rearview mirror and the 40th Anniversary season nearly completed, close to 90,000 guests from around the world converged on the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds to buy, sell and trade all things automotive.

The five-day event included the standard swap meet and car corral frenzy as well as a 2-day auction at the Expo center presented by Carlisle Auctions.  In addition, a film crew was onsite to tape episodes for The Appraisers, a new car-themed program airing on Discovery?s Velocity Channel in 2015.  Finally, as part of the 40th Anniversary fun, a car display was organized in and around Building G spotlighting cars ranging 1974-2014, the current years of operation for Carlisle Events.

Within the swap meet and car corral, thousands of vendors moved great automotive-themed items.  Pieces and parts deemed original, new old stock, aftermarket and more were available as were collectibles and memorabilia best suited for a garage, man cave or shop.  Classic cars were the rage too with a few thousand lacing the east end of the grounds between fence lines.  As was the case with the swap and vending areas, multiple transactions kept the onsite notary office very busy throughout the weekend

Annual Corvettes at Carlisle Show Draws Thousands from Around the World

CARLISLE, PA ? The final specialty show for the Carlisle Events? season has come and gone and as has been the case since 1982, Corvettes at Carlisle helped wrap this portion of the schedule with a bang.  Though three events remain for Carlisle Events, this is the last one with a dedicated show field, in this case, America?s Sports Car ? the Corvette.  Over the course of three days, August 22-24, the grounds came to life and honored the past, present and future of the Corvette brand.  At Carlisle were year one models, pre-production 2015 Z06 coupes and convertibles and everything in between.  Great displays served as an accessory to the event as well and helped continue to draw enthusiasts from around the world.

Corvettes at Carlisle is branded as a three-day event, but passions run deep with those who attend and as such, guests were coming onsite as early as Wednesday, with vendors setting up even earlier.  Thursday during event weekend was as busy, if not busier than a Saturday at some other shows promoted by Carlisle Events and when Thursday is that good for early-bird day, Friday is even better!  When the gates officially opened at 7 a.m. Friday morning, cars cruised onsite nonstop for a myriad of reasons.

Popular stops included the 50th anniversary display of 1964 Corvettes, the CERV II rear engine Corvette that sat within that group, a unique Corvette Challenge Series display, race prepared Corvettes and the NCRS Gallery in Building G.

Finally, what would Fall Carlisle be without its popular car auction?  As previously mentioned, Carlisle Auctions supported this aspect of the weekend and did so with amazing results.  320+ cars crossed the block with 65% of them actually being sold.  Cars were priced to move too as rides sold from the low four figures to six figure range.  Of those sales, a 2001 BMW Z8 was the top seller, going for $144,450 (including fees), while a Corvette once owned by Carlisle Events co-owner Chip Miller sold for $77,040 (including fees).

With Fall Carlisle in the bag along with its auction, Carlisle Events turns its attention to Zephyrhills, Florida and Festival Park for Fall AutoFest.  This event, much like Spring and Fall Carlisle, is a home for all things automotive and is where thousands of guests come to buy, sell and trade.  Fall AutoFest runs November 13-16, with the auction taking place November 14-15.  For information on the auction or to secure a vending space, call 717-243-7855 or visit

Thousands of Corvettes were part of the non-judged Fun Field and a select group  positioned themselves in the NCCC judged area for Sanction Sevens judging and recognition.  Between those honors and everyone else who earned a celebrity pick on the Fun Field, the Sunday awards parade was packed with happy Corvette owners and their beautiful Corvettes.

Along with the cool cars on the Fun Field, a dozen or so more were spotlighted within Building T as part of Chip?s Choice.  The 2014 theme was centered on cars that have brought together family and/or friends and have created or solidified unbreakable bonds and ties all because of the Corvette.  Finally, what Corvette show would be complete without some competition and a parade of awesome machinery?  Friday of the show, a handful of cars participated in the burnout competition, while Saturday welcomed a dozen young ladies as part of the beauty contest.  The real crescendo came via the Downtown Carlisle Corvette Parade and Street Party Saturday night.  Some 400 cars lined the streets and were joined by thousands of onlookers.  There was even some live music to take the fun into the night.

Though the 2014 show has come and gone, that doesn?t mean the Corvette theme has concluded.  Carlisle Events wraps its home-based schedule with Fall Carlisle, October 1-5.  As part of this flagship 40th Anniversary celebration, a special 1974-2014 automotive timeline will be on display and will include some cool Corvettes from the past 40 years.  Otherwise, next year?s show is in the planning stages with the event running August 28-30, 2015.  Save the date
